Frequently Asked Questions About Christianity

What is a Christian?

A Christian is a follower of Jesus Christ, who believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that He died to rescue us from the power of Sin. A Christian had a personal relationship with God, based on Christ's work on our behalf.

What do Christians believe about Jesus Christ?

Christians believe that Jesus was God's Son, that is His final expression in human form. Jesus was both a man and God, who chose to come to earth and die for our sins. He was not born like other men of an earthly father and mothers, but God was his father, and his mother a virgin. Lived in Palestine, preaching and teaching, until he was thirty-three. Then he died on a Roman cross in Jerusalem, and buried in a stone tomb. Three days later, Jesus rose from the dead--resurrected by God's power

What do Christians believe about God?

God is the creator of the entire universe. He has always been and always will be. He is all powerful, all wise, and all knowing. He created the world to be enjoyed by people, and all He made was made good.

So what went wrong?

When our first parents disobeyed God, sin entered the world. This sin has affected every generation since, and the whole universe. War, violence, sickness, greed, and death are all in the world because of that first disobedience The effects of sin are so great that there is nothing we can do without God's intervention to control it. It affects our intellect, emotions, will, and physical lives as well. Only God's forgiveness through Jesus and God's freeing grace through the Holy Spirit can ever reverse or control the effects of sin

What did God do about this?"

First, God gave us the Bible through the Jewish people to teach us how to live. Then He sent Jesus--who was himself in human form--to pay the price we owe for our sins. God loves us so much He was willing to suffer and die on a cross for us. Now, anyone who calls on Jesus' name can be forgiven and purified from their sins.

What about those who don't believe in Jesus?

It is God's sincere wish that everyone will believe in Jesus, and call upon the forgiveness He offers. Jesus is the culmination of all human religion, the fulfiller of all desires for a right relationship to God, and a gift to all people who call upon Him.

Who is the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Holy Trinity, with God and Jesus. He is the living, moving and active person of God, who is constantly working in the world. The Holy Spirit moves believers to believe, fills them with power and love, and comforts them when in trouble. Everyone who believes in Jesus has the Holy Spirit living in them.

What do Christians believe about the Bible?

The Bible is God's word, the record of what God has said and done through His people in the past. God has kept it from error, so it can be a guide to us in the present. The Bible is our guide and pattern for every area of life.

What happens when we die?

When we put our trust in Jesus, we go to join God in heaven, as His adopted children.

How does a How does someone become a Christian?

Becoming a Christian is as simple as ABC

First, admit that you are a sinner, and that you cannot save yourself.
Second, believe that Jesus died to give you a new life, and to bring you into a new relationship with God.
Third Confess Him as your king and your rescuer.

Is it really that simple?

It's really that simple. After you have received Him into your life, there are things you should do to continue to enjoy the benefits of believers. These include:

Getting involved in a Christian church

Reading the Bible and praying.

Giving a portion of your income to God's work.

Forgiving those who have wronged you, and apologizing and making restitution for those you have wronged.

Doing God's work on earth by caring for he poor and unfortunate.

Loving others as yourself.

All of these are important, but none of them make you a Christian. They are ways we express our desire to follow Him and know Him better. But we become believers by what God does, not by what we do.
